Yap AG shot in front of her house; FSM Consulate not yet notified

(Tumon, Guam) The acting Attorney General of Yap - Rachelle Bergeron - was shot dead in front of home this morning.

Linda Timodhy with the Federated States of Micronesia Consulate General of Guam office told Kandit that the Consulate has not yet received official notification of the murder in Yap State.


The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the murder.


Rachelle Bergeron was hired in August of 2015 by the Office of the Attorney General arrived in Yap State.


Ms. Bergeron previously practiced law with experience in litigation in Washington, D.C. and human trafficking outreach/human rights advocacy in New York City and India. She was also a member of the New York State Bar.


During her tenure in Yap Ms. Bergeron focused on her work on a human trafficking task force and took on major Chinese fishing companies….

Bergeron recently celebrated her one year wedding anniversary to pilot Simon Hammerling.
