A weather system is developing east of Kwajalein Atoll in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and has been moving closer this way for the past two days.
The Joint Typhoon Warning Center today upgraded to medium from low the potential for Invest 97W to develop into a significant tropical cyclone within 24 hours.
The system, located at 8.2º North latitude and 177.2º East longitude, is in an environment "favorable for further development with warm (29-30 Celsius) sea surface temperatures and low (10-15 kts) vertical wind shear, however upper level outflow remains weak," according to JTWC's latest holding statement.
Kandit will continue to monitor this storm's movement and development.
