Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero, Lt. Gov. Josh Tenorio, and public health director Art San Agustin are on the airport's tarmac right now accepting the first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Department of Public Health and Social Services placed its first order of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines on December 4 for 3,900 doses. Additionally, DPHSS has placed its first order of Moderna vaccines, or vaccine B, on Saturday, December 12, for a total of 3,800 doses. The Moderna vaccine must still undergo the same review and approval process as the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine before distribution begins to states and territories.

According to the government, the first phase of vaccinations will be administered to the following groups of people in the following order:

  1. Healthcare personnel and residents of long-term care facilities

  2. Essential service workers

  3. People with co-morbidities and the elderly
